Adam Kiu

Adam Kiu graduted in April 2009 from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Co-op Honours Computer Science (Digital Hardware Option).  His technical aptitude and thirst for knowledge are two qualities that he hopes to utilize to make an impact on and advance today’s technology.

Currently, he is employed at Microsoft as a Program Manager on the Application Virtualization team.

Application Virtualization is a relatively new technology with large promises to revolutionize the way IT departments are run.  In a market where technology is new and competition is high, Adam will work with the App-V team to establish such market presence for Microsoft.

Experience in Software

His most recent internship was at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington as an Intern Program Manager on the System Center Operations Manager team where he was heavily coached, priming his program management skills.

Adam is an accomplished software developer.  Along with the theoretical knowledge acquired from University, he spent four internships (16 months) developing full windows applications, web applications for clients, writing parsers, implementing features, fixing bugs, and even designing UI.

In his first internship, he worked as a Quality Assurance Tester at a mobile messaging software company, automating test cases by writing scripts and certifying mobile devices’ compatibility with the software.

Personal

Music has always been ingrained in his roots.  At the age of 14, he successfully passed his grade eight piano exam.  In high school, he was a distinguished drummer in a rock band, participating in multiple talent shows and competitions, and taking home multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.  He also enjoys playing guitar and singing.

Fitness and sports are a large part of his life as well.  After acquiring his lifeguard certification, he spent his high school summers working at a pool.  His favorite sports are beach volleyball and basketball.  He was intramurals basketball team captain for 2 years, plays the point guard position, and also participated in the CCYAA and TCSSC recreational leagues in Toronto, Canada.  He maintains a website for point guards.

To feed his thirst for knowledge, he reads books on technology, psychology, intelligence, business, and motivation.

He currently resides in Boston, Massachussetts where he and his girlfriend enjoy exploring the city, eating in, playing video games, shopping, and lounging at patios.
